S/Y ASTRID
Lillehammer - Norway
This is going to be a very special voyage.
Skipper Jan Øystein Fjeldstad and Medical Astrid Karlstad had a burning desire to help some of those who experience a difficult everyday life. We therefore started a joint project with sponsors and other contributions from like-minded people. Our own sailboat, a Bruce Robert 34, was too small and the search for something safer began. In Godøysund we found her together with many good people with the same burning interest in thoughts of peace and boating. The name had to be S/Y Astrid.
S/Y Astrid is a 43-foot ferro-cement boat with extra reinforced rigging to clear the waters we will be embarking on from 2024.
Our plan for spring 2024 is to put the boat in a good position to sail with up to six people in three cabins.
We are a group that wants to sail S/Y Astrid in Europe, but now also see that our ambassadors in other parts of the world welcome us to their ports.
The main purpose of this tour is to promote peace along the journey. S/Y Astrid is the first privately owned sailboat in the world to set sail with the peace flag and sail from Aker Brygge in Oslo Norway's National Day on 17 May 2024 at 4:00 pm
A burning desire is also to show support for the indigenous people of Norway, Sweden and Finland's Sami who all border Russia. Therefore, two more flags must be hoisted at the mast before departure; the Sami flag and a rainbow flag for gay rights.
The sailboat S/Y ASTRID has a qualified crew as skipper, navigator, cook and medical health personnel, this means that those who want to sign up as a crew know that we hold a high standard.
On the way south, we will come into contact with orphanages, street children, refugee camps and various authorities.
